PURPOSE:

To provide child protection services to children and families within the Metis community

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Under the direction of and in consultation with the Team Leader investigates Section 13 reports of child abuse and neglect by interviewing children, observing and involving appropriate agencies in the investigation, evaluating risk indicators, validating the complaint, and determining a plan of action which may include the removal of the children from their parents care.
? Develops and implements a child protection plan by identifying client needs, establishing long and short term goals and developing a risk reduction service plan with clients and other resources.
? Ensures the ongoing management of cases by monitoring progress towards goals, coordinating services, consulting with other service providers, examining the terms of the contract and making referrals to other agencies.
? Prepares documentation for court, files documents and ensures legislative requirements are addressed and timelines for serving notice follow the Rules of Court.
? Serving and preparing clients for court by explaining the purpose, ensuring client has access to legal counsel.
? Prepares and presents evidence for Family Court, determines admissible evidence, instructs legal counsel regarding the type of court order sought, prepares for hearing.
? Acts as the legal guardian by monitoring services to feed, clothe and house the child, provides opportunity for the social, developmental, intellectual and moral development of the child and identifies specific needs.
? Sees child every three months
? Develops life plans and Comprehensive Plans of Care for with the child, family, foster family and others.
? Recommends expenditures for services to families.
? Provides services to the family such as assistance with parenting skills, referrals to treatment, housing etc...
? Recommends expenditures for support services to families.
? Works as a member of a team through an integrated case management approach.

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Bachelors of Social Work or Masters in Social Work, or Bachelors of Art in Child and
? Youth care, or Masters in Educational Counselling/Masters Clinical Psychology, or equivalent.
? Must have child welfare specialization.
? Must have worked at an Aboriginal agency for one year, or in an Aboriginal stream. Must have worked one year in child welfare.
? Must be fully delegated under the CFCSA

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

? Willingness and interest in learning about Metis culture,
? Work experience through the completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
? Flexible schedule.
? Criminal Record Check; Driver’s License and Driver’s abstract; reliable form of transportation
? Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.
? Team orientated

RATE OF PAY: $30.69 per hour
